Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction Portsmouth NH

Treat the discomfort of macromastia (oversized breasts) while creating a more youthful, beautiful breast. It’s an excellent way to treat the symptoms of large breasts.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.”

The level of patient satisfaction from breast reduction is among the highest of all procedures.

Oversized breasts can affect a woman’s daily life. Breast that is too large and out of proportion to the body cause pain, embarrassment, anxiety, and often, restriction of physical activity.

Symptoms of oversized breasts include:

  • Breast that is out of proportion to the rest of your body
  • Neck pain,
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder grooves from the weight of heavy or pendulous breasts with nipples that point downward
  • Rashes under or between the breasts particularly in warm weather,
  • Asymmetrical breasts—one being larger than the other
  • Self-consciousness

Breast reduction eliminates these painful symptoms by getting the weight off your frame, reducing breast size, lifting the breasts, and improving the shape. Your breasts will be more proportionate, clothes will fit you better and physical activities will be much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Traditional and Short Scar breast reduction surgery is performed by making incisions in the breasts and cutting out fat. Each breast will have about 12 inches of the incision line. Dr. Lawrence Gray offers the traditional method and short scar method in addition to the scarless method of breast reduction.

At Atlantic Plastic Surgery & MediSpa, we offer the traditional method and short scar method for those patients:

  • whose insurance doesn’t cover the scarless method
  • who may have inadequate fat content for liposuction or
  • who are willing to accept the scars in order to elevate the nipples

Am I a good candidate?

If you have any of the above symptoms or a combination of those symptoms, you are a good candidate for the procedure. Breast Reduction can be done at any age but is usually recommended after the breasts have stopped growing.

Patients are asked to fill out this form and bring it with them to their appointment. patient-registration-information

How am I evaluated?

Your surgeon will ask you what size you would like to be and anything else about your breasts you would like to have improved at the time of surgery, such as correction of the nipple direction. In younger breasts, the nipple direction is usually straight out. Breasts that are weighed down by excess fat tissue bring the nipple into a downward pointing direction. This can be corrected by a breast lift at the time of the procedure. Your surgeon will ask about your expectations to determine whether they can be realistically achieved.

Call us to find out if we accept your insurance. Vertical breast reduction may or may not be covered by your insurance. We are happy to assist you in communicating with your insurance company.

What about insurance coverage?

We do accept all insurances. This procedure may or may not be covered by your insurance. We will assist you in communicating with your insurance company.

How soon can I get back to normal?

While we advise the patient to take a full week off from work or their usual activities to rest and recover, many women are up and around almost immediately and back to their full and normal schedules in 4 to 6 weeks.
