Portsmouth, New Hampshire – Sientra is the first breast implant maker in the United States to obtain FDA approval for shaped implants. Approval for the first and only form-stable anatomical gel breast implant in additional to the high strength cohesive silicone gel round implants was obtained in March, 2012. The round and shaped breast implants available worldwide for over 15 years are now available in the United States for breast augmentation and for breast reconstruction. Dr. Brannon Claytor stated, “Shaped implants offer another choice for breast implants and are especially suited for breast reconstruction. The skin is thin after mastectomy and there is very little breast tissue available to create a natural breast shape. Shaped implants create a better transition from the chest wall to the nipple.”

For cosmetic breast augmentation, form stable anatomical breast implants, also referred to as “tear drop” shaped implants, create a very natural looking breast shape with a softly sloping breast profile. Shaped implants are contoured to recreate the outline of a mature breast with a pleasing amount of breast tissue. They are available in moderate or high profile. Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lawrence Gray has the most experience of any plastic surgeon in New England with Sientra implants going back 8 years.

High-strength shaped silicone gel implants, also known as “gummy bear” implants are proving to be a desirable option. Gummy bear breast implants are made of a high-strength silicone gel. These high-strength gel implants are different from liquid-filled saline and silicone implants. They also present important advantages, such as maintaining their shape and remaining an upright position. Shaped implants or gummy bear implants are not likely to wrinkle, fold or ripple. Shaped or gummy bear implants also feel soft and natural.
