Portsmouth, NH—Doctors Lawrence N. Gray and R. Brannon Claytor have been selected to present their paper entitled, “MACS Facelift with FATS” at the 91st annual meeting of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons in be held in San Francisco, California from April 14th to 17th, 2012. The poster presentation is based on Dr. Gray’s experience over a five-year period.
Dr. Gray has modified the MACS facelift by introducing the “Finger Assisted Tissue Separation” (FATS) technique resulting in quicker recovery, fewer complications, and better results. The FATS technique is a simpler and safer procedure. Preserving the natural fat and repositioning it provides a bloodless operative field and the finger assisted tissue separation (FATS) allows minimal use of cautery, which can cause thermal heat injury.
Facial aging is a result of years of the natural gravitational pull between the skin and facial skeleton leading to the sagging of the skin and loss of elasticity. Sagging is made worse by the weight of added fat. Previous methods used cautery to assist in the operation. Using the MACS Facelift with FATS, Dr. Gray is able to avoiding cautery, which minimizes loss of volume of facial tissue. This method enables Dr. Gray to preserve and reposition existing fat instead of trying to replace it by using fat injections, which are less predictable. The big advantage is that patients appear more natural and are able to return to social activities, often in one week. With the MACS Facelift with FATS the results are more predictable, have less bleeding and require no use of drains, which are used with most other techniques.
Dr. Gray has achieved better results using the MACS facelift with Finger Assisted Tissue Separation (FATS) now for more than 8 years. The results appear to have a long lasting result.
