Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center Now Offering Ultherapy

Portsmouth, NH – Dr. Lawrence Gray and Dr. Heidi Harrington announced today that Ultherapy, the only non-invasive procedure FDA approved to lift skin on the neck, on the brow and under the chin, is now available at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center.

Ultherapy is a non-surgical procedure for the face and neck that stimulates the body?s own natural healing process to lift the skin over time The use of FDA cleared ultrasound technology enables physicians, for the first time to see and then treat the deepest support layers of the skin?typically addressed in cosmetic surgery?without cutting of disrupting the surface of the skin.

Ultherapy represents a whole new category within aesthetic medicine?, says Dr. Gray. ?It is an ideal cosmetic procedure for those looking for natural yet noticeable results.?

The treatment takes about 90 minutes. Afterward, patients are able to return to normal activities right away, and there are no special measures they need to take.

With just on Ultherapy treatment, the lifting process is initiated, but the effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months, as new, stronger collagen and elastin are created. Further improvements can even appear up to six months following a procedure as this collagen building process continues.

While the results do not duplicate those of surgery, Ultherapy?s gradual improvements make is a compelling option for people who have mild to moderate skin laxity as well as those who want to ?stay ahead of the game? and those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

More than 100,000 Ultherapy treatments have been performed worldwide, Drs. Gray and Harrington are pleased to be at the forefront in the United States of this clinical advancement. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Member of AAAASF 12 Years Running

Portsmouth, NH – The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF) is a nonprofit organization established to promote and regulate patient safety in outpatient settings.

AAAASF centers are highly regulated. They annually assess the performance of member surgery centers through the inspection process and submitted data to demonstrate that the out patient facility is safe and convenient for patients of all ages. Harsh penalties are imposed when standards are not met. The benefit of maintaining membership is for the facility to independently demonstrate to patients that their facility is safe and meets the gold standard for quality patient care.

The American Board of Plastic Surgery requires member plastic surgeons to operate in AAAASF certified facilities. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center has been accredited by AAAASF at the highest level since 2002, the first on the seacoast of New Hampshire. They have a proud record of remaining current in AAAASF certification for 12 years running.

Patients now commonly travel great distances to find the best surgeon for their procedure. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons(ISAPS) has instituted standards of safety, called Global Certification, for patients who travel internationally to see their chosen surgeons. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center is one of less than 20 facilities in the world to obtain this Global Certification.

Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center uses only board certified anesthesiologists and is able to offer IV sedation or general anesthesia, for which separate and additional levels of certification have also been met. They meet and exceed the strictest standards of safety and equipment met by hospitals.

Dr. Lawrence Gray, Medical Director at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center, sets his own personal standards of excellence for his facility and staff, which are not required. The nursing staff belong to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Nurses, and Skin Wellness Center staff are members of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists. The registered nurses at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center are also Certified Plastic Surgical Nurses, certified by the Plastic Surgery Nursing Certification Board.

AAAASF, in their mission to ensure the delivery of safety and quality patient care, further recommends that patients follow these safety guidelines prior to any surgery: Be their own health care advocates. Make certain the surgeon is board certified in the specialty for which one is seeking care and has privileges at a hospital near the facility.

Make sure the facility where the procedure will be performed is accredited. Skin Wellness Center Adds NeoLTS Light Therapy

Portsmouth, NH – The Skin Wellness Center at Atlantic Plastic Surgery has recently acquired NeoLTS, the newest and most sophisticated LED light therapy system. NeoLTS is FDA cleared and clinically proven to improve the appearance of skin and hair.

NeoLTS is the premier non-invasive treatment for nourishment of the scalp to prevent the continuation of thinning hair, correct acne and rejuvenate aging skin. Normal aging and excess sun exposure cause fine lines, pigmentation or age spots, and wrinkles that accumulate on the face, neck and upper chest. NeoLTS treatments reduce pigmentation, soften fine lines anywhere on the face, stimulate collagen production, and reduce inflammation (redness and swelling). Treatments also helps with any swelling or bruising after dermal injections.

Light Therapy is the process of exposing the skin to specific wavelengths (colors) of light to help the body combat the signs of aging and to heal faster and more effectively. The most common type of light therapy utilizes LED’s or Light Emitting Diodes. LED light therapy has a dramatic effect on controlling the visible signs of aging including wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and hair loss, to name a few.

NeoLTS uses three wavelengths of light: the blue light wavelength which treats mild to moderate acne, the red light wavelength which targets inflammation and the near infrared wavelength which stimulates the production of your skin’s natural collagen and elastin and tissue production. These three wavelengths can be combined to treat specific skin or hair conditions.

NeoLTS treatments are appropriate for both men and women of all skin and hair types. NeoLTS provides long term results with a simple maintenance plan. Two treatments per week for 4 weeks promotes the body’s natural cellular process.

The Benefits of NeoLTS include Improvement to the condition and appearance of hair and skin, long-term results, no downtime, no side effects, no pain, no redness, and no irritation. Now, lights are now used to heal and repair skin and hair. NeoLTS improves skin tone, texture and overall clarity and has shown to increase hair thickness where here has been loss. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center Adds Neograft Hair Restoration

Have A Full, Natural Looking Hairline

Portsmouth, NH – Dr. Lawrence Gray, Dr. Brannon Claytor and Dr. Mark Ballentyne of Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center have added the advanced Neograft Hair Restoration System to the wide array of cosmetic enhancements available to their patients.

Approximately 40 million men and 21 million women in the United States have male or female pattern baldness. Two-thirds of men have some degree of noticeable hair loss by age 35. By age 50, that figure rises to 75% who have significant hair loss. Women can also have hair loss ranging from small areas to more extensive areas. Hair loss can be very damaging to the confidence and self-esteem of both men and women.

The Neograft system provides hair transplant surgery in less time, with less discomfort and more successfully than older methods of hair transplantation. “Performed under local anesthesia, Neograft enables us to harvest follicles quickly and with accuracy”, reports Dr. Lawrence Gray, Medical Director at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center. “The Neograft hand piece allows us to gently remove individual follicles without cutting the skin or leaving a long scar as you will see with the more traditional methods of hair transplantation.”

Neograft uses a follicular unit extraction device, or FUE, which collects donor follicles from an area of thick hair growth, most often the back of the head, and then transplants them to an area where hair is balding now but originally grew. This extraction device uses controlled pneumatic pressure to gently remove the follicles one at a time with no cutting, pulling or twisting. “The FUE method keeps each follicle in tact and improves patient comfort”, Dr. Brannon Claytor states. This automation of the process also allows the physician to perform the procedure quicker than a traditional strip method or even manual FUE method. The significant benefit is that the hair follicles spend less time outside of the body. This increases the sustainability of the hairs and the likelihood of success. The implanted hair follicles then produce normal growth several months after the procedure. Full growth usually takes about one year, but some patients see some growth in just a few months.

Neograft provides fast recovery time with patients returning to work the next day, no linear scar or numbness, and no stiches or staples. Large areas can be transplanted in one session reducing the need for additional procedures and reducing the overall cost of restoring one’s hair. We have seen remarkable results with the Neograft system, says Dr. Mark Ballentyne. Patients love the results and that it doesn’t leave a scar. Even men and women who want to wear their hair short can do so without worrying about visible scarring.

Drs. Gray, Claytor and Ballentyne consult with the patient first to determine if that patient is an appropriate candidate. The best candidates are those who have on-going, predictable hair loss due to genetics. Patients also need to have good coverage at the donor site. Patients should also understand that Neograft is not able to restore hair to the original fullness they had 10 to 20 years ago, but it can give the patient significant improvement. Neograft transplanted follicles continue to grow normally. The Neograft procedure does not prevent future loss, however. Some patients choose to undergo a further treatment in the future while some patients are able to maintain their results with hair restoration products such as rogaine or light therapy. For more information on hair restoration, call Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center at 1-800-633-6860.

Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center Acquires Coolsmooth, New CoolSculpting® Applicator for Thighs

New CoolSculpting® Applicator for Thighs

Portsmouth, New Hampshire – CoolSculpting® is an innovative and non-invasive body contouring treatment for fat reduction. This new, fast growing technology works by freezing fat cells in targeted areas. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center now has the new CoolSmooth Applicator for hard to reach areas, such as outer thighs. The new CoolSmooth applicator has a flat surface and a larger plate. This unique, comfortable flat applicator design allows a 38% larger area to be treated than with the previous applicator.

The ideal candidate for Coolsculpting is close to their goal weight, yet has persistent areas of fat that diet and exercise alone do not seem to help. The ideal candidate has a generally healthy weight with a body mass index of less than 30. The new CoolsSmooth applicator is ideal for non-pinchable fat. Each Coolsculpting treatment reduces about 25% of the fat in the area treated.

The uniqueness of the CoolSmooth applicator is that it is designed to access areas of the body that were previously difficult to treat, which are the outer thighs, vertical columns of abdominal fat, upper arms, inner thighs, back of thighs and below the buttocks. The new CoolSmooth applicator delivers precisely controlled, gentle cooling to the selected treatment area specifically targeting fat. The cold brings the underlying fat to temperatures that doesn?t damage the skin but permanently kills the fat cells so the body can remove them. Starting several weeks after the procedure, the cooled fat cells begin a process called apoptosis and begin to shrink. The body proceeds to naturally and gradually eliminate the cooled fat cells through the lymphatic system, reducing the thickness of the fat layer, over a period of 8 to 12 weeks. Approximately two to four months after the Coolsculpting treatment, patients begin to notice significant results in the treated areas.

Happily, we have a set number of fat cells in our bodies. We don?t make more. The size of fat cells expand and contract as we lose or gain weight, but once removed from an area, that area will remain smaller if weight stays stable.

Coolsculpting has shown significant results in clinical studies for removing fat without the potential risks of damage to nearby tissues. This technique of reducing fat through freezing targeted cells is based on science developed by Harvard scientists. There is a vast body of research that demonstrates that fat cells are more susceptible to cold and are selectively, painlessly and permanently destroyed. Coolsculpting is safe and non-invasive, meaning that unlike many other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery or downtime. On average, each CoolSculpting procedure results in an undeniable reduction of fat in the treated area, and patients can start to see results as soon as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results occurring over a period of two to four months in most patients.
